Blackpool ‘Sumdog’ Maths CompetitionSumdog is an online way for kids to practice their maths skills whilst playing competitive, fun, maths-related games against friends, classmates, or students from around the world. All of the children in our school were encouraged to take part in a recent competition held by Sumdog, competing as classes against other schools in Blackpool. After giving up their break times, lunch times and evenings, 6A managed to score a massive 845 points in one week, making them the winners and current Blackpool Sumdog champions! Each child in 6A now has a free, full subscription to Sumdog for one year, which they can access in or out of school. Well done 6A!

Crossleys Bridge Visit24-03-2017 | 10:47:25 | No Comments

On Thursday 23rd March we visited the Story Contracting office at the Crossleys Bridge site.

The year 6 children chosen to visit the site had expressed an interest in finding out more about a career in the construction industry and Story offered to help us with this by welcoming us to the bridge.

On arrival we had a safety briefing to ensure that we all understood the potential dangers of walking on a building site.

We were then given our very own orange hi-vis jackets to wear and keep!

Following the safety briefing we walked up to the bridge site and got a chance to sit in a big digger and make lots of noise with the horn! Brenna got to wear a site managers hat.

When we got back to the office, Will Britain talked to us about his role with Blackpool Council and Highways. He told us about what he has to do and also about what qualifications would be needed to carry out his role. We then had a talk from the Site Manager who told us all about how he got to be where he was. He told us that it is never too late to make a change as he was a farmer for many years, until he decided he wanted to go into the construction industry- where he has worked his way up to Site Manager.

We had a fantastic time and we all came back to school inspired!

Thanks you STORY for giving up your time to work with us.

You can read more about our trip in the Evening Gazette next week.
